Agarwood produces a special black colored wood known as agar wood.
In the local language that is known as ‘Mal’.
This plant has white flowers and capsule-shaped fruits.
The leaves of the agar plant look a lot like the leaves of the lychee plant, which many people may confuse with the leaves of the bokul plant.
White colored agar wood is very soft. As a result, this tree is not used for any purpose other than collecting materials for perfume production and firewood.

আগর গাছ থেকে বিশেষ কালো রঙের কাঠ পাওয়া যায়, যা আগর কাঠ নামে পরিচিত।
এ গাছে সাদা রঙের ফুল এবং ফলগুলো ক্যাপসুল আকৃতির হয়।
আগর গাছের পাতা দেখতে অনেকটা লিচু গাছের পাতার মতো, অনেকে বকুল গাছের পাতার সাথেও মিলাতে পারেন।

আগরের সুগন্ধ প্রশান্তিদায়ক, অনেকেই শরীরের শক্তি বৃদ্ধিতে সহায়ক হিসেবে কাজে লাগে।
নানাবিধ ওষুধ, পারফিউম, পারফিউম জাতীয় দ্রব্যাদি-সাবান, শ্যাম্পু এসব প্রস্তুতে আগর তেল ব্যবহার করা হয়।
সাধারণত গৃহে, বিভিন্ন ধর্মীয় ও সামাজিক অনুষ্ঠানে সুগন্ধি ছড়ানোর জন্য আগর-আতর ব্যবহার করা হয়।
আগর আতরের পাশাপাশি আগর কাঠের গুঁড়া বা পাউডার ধূপের মতো প্রজ্জ্বলনের মাধ্যমে সুগন্ধি হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হয়।
জাতি বর্ণ নির্বিশেষে হিন্দু, বৌদ্ধ, খ্রিস্টান এবং মুসলিম ধর্মালম্বী সবাই আগর আতর ও আগর কাঠের গুঁড়া ব্যবহার করে।
আতর বাংলাদেশে তরল সোনা হিসেবে পরিচিতি লাভ করেছে।
